The West Virginia Bureau for Medical Services offers the following Behavioral Health Services:
- Behavioral Health Outpatient Services are provided by independent practicing licensed psychologist (LP), supervised psychologist (SP), licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and licensed professional counselor (LPC).
- Targeted Case Management assists certain Medicaid eligible recipients to gain access to needed medical, behavioral health, social, educational and other services. Targeted populations are:
- People with mental illness,
- People with substance-related disorders,
- People with developmental disabilities not enrolled in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDW) program,,
- People temporarily residing in licensed domestic violence centers, and
- Adults over the age of 20 who are residents of long-term care facilities or who need supported living arrangements.
- Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an inclusive array of community-based rehabilitative mental health services for members with serious and persistent mental illness who have a history of high use of psychiatric hospitalization and/or crisis stabilization and therefore, require a well-coordinated and integrated package of services, provided over an extended duration, to live successfully in the community of their choice.
This service is available for individuals that are 18 and up and that meet the admission criteria. Eligible members will have a primary mental health diagnosis and may have co-occurring conditions including mental health and substance use or mental health and mild intellectual disability. ACT is a very specialized model of treatment/service delivery in which a multidisciplinary team assumes ultimate accountability for a small, defined caseload of individuals. ACT is a unique treatment model in which the majority of direct services are provided by the ACT team members in the member’s community environment. More information on ACT may be found in Chapter 503, Licensed Behavioral Health Centers.
