​​HSC’s Statistical Services distributes health statistics drawn from vital records and other health data sources to improve the health of West Virginia. By identifying and sharing data, HSC informs policy makers and guides prevention and intervention efforts. The statistics on this page are largely drawn from the Vital Statistics report and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System report.

The charts below display prevalence estimates among West Virginia adults for select risk factors as measured by BRFSS. Prevalence is the percentage of the population having a particular condition or characteristic or practicing a specific health behavior. The BRFSS reports present results of BRFSS in West Virginia as prevalence estimates for select risk factors and health conditions among West Virginia adults. A 95% confidence interval is represented by black error bars surrounding the prevalence estimate which represent the sampling error. The true prevalence is expected to fall within the displayed range with a confidence of 95%.
