Although West Virginia has one of the highest rates of immunization for school-age children, the state has the lowest rate of infant immunization in the U.S. That’s why the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) is kicking off National Infant Immunization Week with a special vaccination awareness event at the West Virginia Public Employees Day Care Center in Charleston.
On Monday, April 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., DHHR Cabinet Secretary Karen L. Bowling and Dr. Rahul Gupta, Commissioner and State Health Officer of the Bureau for Public Health, will discuss the importance of infant immunization as a tool for preventing disease outbreaks in West Virginia. Also present will be Dr. Sherri Young, Medical Director for the Division of Immunization Services; Karen Frazier, Public Employees Day Care Director; and a day care parent.
