The West Virginia Department of Health Facilities seeks to coordinate, oversee, and provide direction of state-owned health care facilities, including one acute medical hospital, two acute psychiatric hospitals, and four long-term care facilities. The Department also works diligently to improve the health and well-being of all West Virginians who utilize the services of these facilities who are affected by a behavioral illness, medical illness, or long-term care needs.
Under the leadership of Governor Jim Justice and in coordination with the West Virginia Department of Health and the West Virginia Department of Human Services, I aim to create a health care ecosystem that addresses the needs of West Virginians comprehensively, with a focus on patient care and potential opportunities for state-owned facilities to be utilized in a manner that provides the maximum benefit to the state.
*House Bill 2006, passed during the 2023 Legislative Session, reorganized the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources into three separate departments effective January 1, 2024: West Virginia Department of Health, West Virginia Department of Health Facilities, and West Virginia Department of Human Services.
Forensic Services works with the courts and the applicable placements to provide services for individuals under the care of DHHR directed by Chapter 27-6A of the West Virginia Code.
