The West Virginia Department of Health Facilities seeks to coordinate, oversee, and provide direction of state-owned health care facilities, including one acute medical hospital, two acute psychiatric hospitals, and four long-term care facilities. The Department also works diligently to improve the health and well-being of all West Virginians who utilize the services of these facilities who are affected by a behavioral illness, medical illness, or long-term care needs.
Under the leadership of Governor Jim Justice and in coordination with the West Virginia Department of Health and the West Virginia Department of Human Services, I aim to create a health care ecosystem that addresses the needs of West Virginians comprehensively, with a focus on patient care and potential opportunities for state-owned facilities to be utilized in a manner that provides the maximum benefit to the state.
*House Bill 2006, passed during the 2023 Legislative Session, reorganized the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources into three separate departments effective January 1, 2024: West Virginia Department of Health, West Virginia Department of Health Facilities, and West Virginia Department of Human Services.
