The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), Bureau for Public Health will kick off National Influenza Vaccination Week in a public event Friday, December 1, at 10:30 a.m. at West Virginia Health Right in Charleston, WV, to encourage health care providers to ensure their patients age 6 months and older have been appropriately vaccinated against the flu.
State Health Officer and Commissioner for DHHR’s Bureau for Public Health Dr. Rahul Gupta will be joined by State Immunization Officer Dr. Sherri Young and Angie Settle, CEO and Executive Director of West Virginia Health Right, to discuss the importance of getting a flu shot, dispel misinformation, and share the need for the most vulnerable populations to be vaccinated.
National Influenza Vaccination Week will be observed December 3-9, 2017. While seasonal flu outbreaks can happen as early as October, flu activity is usually highest between December and February, though activity can last as late as May.
Media interviews will be available. West Virginia Health Right will provide a public flu shot clinic during this event.
