Overview:

 
No one wakes up thinking they will lose a loved one in a car crash that day. Every day about 100 people die in crashes and more than 1,000 suffer life-changing injuries.
 
Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children and young adults ages 5 to 24, and the number two cause of death for adults 25 and older and for toddlers, according to the ​Centers for Disease Control.1
 
 

 

Impact on West Virginia:

  • 341 West Virginia residents died due to motor vehicle crashes in 2015 representing close to 17% of all injury related deaths2.
  • 292 West Virginia residents were hospitalized due to motor vehicle crashes in 2015 representing 8% of all injury related hospitalizations3.
