National Rural Health Day Community Star Award

National Rural Health Day (NRHD) offers an opportunity for the West Virginia State Office of Rural Health (WVSORH) and its partners to “Celebrate the Power of Rural” by honoring the selfless, community-minded, “can do” spirit that prevails in rural America, to bring to light the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face, and to showcase the efforts of rural stakeholders in addressing the challenges associated with rural healthcare.

This year, the WVSORH is coupling its observation of NRHD with the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health’s (NOSORH) “Community Star” award. The Community Star award seeks to highlight the inspiring stories of individuals and organizations who make a difference in the health of the communities they serve.

Each year, NOSORH invites nominations from a nationwide rural network, and it selects one individual or organizational nominee from each state to receive this important acknowledgement. This year, Potomac Valley Hospital was nominated by Dianna Iobst, Executive Director for the Critical Access Hospital Network.

Potomac Valley Hospital is a 5 Star CMS hospital that has been making tremendous strides in the last year, expanding access to care during a pandemic and providing excellent health care in the community. The hospital is also helping to improve the economic health of the county.

Potomac Valley Hospital will appear in the 2021 edition of the book of Community Stars, published on the official NHRD website, powerofrural.org, the morning of November 18, 2021.
