The View from Here

Summer is in full swing here in the Mountain State! We trust yours is off to a good start.

While we are thankful for the official expiration of the federally declared COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, our work is far from over. There are after action reports to be completed, steps being worked as we transition from pandemic to more of an endemic response, and continual shared efforts to update guidance and resources. The CDC will continue to monitor community dynamics and impact. You can be a part of these efforts by keeping your healthcare provider informed on your health, as well as reporting any related problems or adverse events to VAERS.

As we look toward our additional responsibilities, the National Scout Jamboree is less than two weeks away. With a 2023 theme of FORWARD, 15,000 scouts are expected to descend upon the 16 square mile Summit Bechtel Reserve from Wednesday, July 19th through Friday, July 28th. West Virginia is proud to be home for the gathering, usually held every four years. There is an enormous amount of planning required for the event, and we are honored to join our many partners in preparation for this wilderness adventure.

We hope you are able to get outdoors to enjoy a bit of West Virginia’s slice of heaven. As you do, please remember to always be prepared and stay safe!
