PLEASE NOTE:  The Office of Laboratory Services DOES NOT offer phlebotomy training for phlebotomy certification.

Although the Office of Laboratory Services does not offer phlebotomy training, the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) maintains a list of all online laboratory programs, which can be found HERE.

Correspondence Courses (Continuing Education)

Correspondence courses may be purchased to earn continuing education which can be used to meet WV CLP Licensure renewal requirements.  The links below provide information about each of the courses we currently offer.  Courses may be purchased by printing the brochure and mailing the course request and a check to our office.  You may also enroll and pay online using the link below.  In order to earn continuing education credits, you must return your completed test to this office and pass with 70% or greater.  Please note ... courses can only be taken once in a three year period.

PLEASE NOTE: These courses were designed solely to provide the required continuing education hours for the WV Clinical Laboratory Practitioner's License and have not been approved by laboratory certification agencies or other professional boards to satisfy renewal requirements.  Contact your certifying agency or licensing board for more information regarding their CE requirements.

Newborn Screening Blood Collection DVD Loan Program

The Office of Laboratory Services' Training Section works with our Newborn Screening Lab to provide free training to hospital personnel who collect newborn screening blood samples.  Through our DVD loan program, facilities can borrow the Clinical and Laboratories Standard Institute produced DVD "Making a Difference Through Newborn Screening: Blood Collection on Filter Paper" which is based on CLSI Standard NBS01-A6.  This 30-minute video provides detailed information on preparing to take a sample, sample collection and sample submission.  To request a loan, print and complete the order form below.

A short online video for how to collect newborn screening blood samples is available below.  This video is focused on sample collection and is not as extensive as the CLSI DVD.  The following video was produced to be in compliance with a small part of the CLSI Standard NBS01-A6.
