Referral Testing

While the Office of Laboratory Services makes every attempt to offer our clients the most complete menu of test services, there are some tests that are not in high enough demand for it to be feasible for us to implement.  In these cases, we offer testing referral services.  Some of the referral tests we offer are listed below.  You can find the complete list HERE.

  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Dengue
  • Chikungunya

OLS also can coordinate testing of equine specimens for West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.  Serum specimens are sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) in Ames, Iowa for testing.  A copy of their submission form is available on their website.  Specimens must be shipped to OLS and NOT directly to NVSL.  Please contact OLS at 304-558-3530 extension 2602 or 2403 to arrange for testing.

NOTE: Before shipping, submitters must contact the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology (DIDE) for consultation and approval.  Call 304-558-5358 and ask for the epidemiologist on call.
