 Guillain-Barré syndrome is an uncommon illness of the nervous system, which causes a person’s immune system to damage the nerve cells, leading to muscle weakness, and sometimes, paralysis. Research suggests GBS is strongly associated with Zika. http://www.cdc.gov/zika/healtheffects/gbs-qa.html  
 CDC has been working with the Puerto Rico Department of Health to help establish a surveillance system for Guillain-Barré syndrome.
