West Virginia Medicaid and West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP) have extended postpartum coverage from 60 days to 12 months
effective April 1, 2022. No action is needed to receive this extended coverage. If you are not sure whether you are receiving coverage for your pregnancy or postpartum period, please contact the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) to inquire as to the type of coverage you are receiving.
Your enrollment for postpartum medical coverage will continue regardless of the reason the pregnancy ended or changes in your circumstances and should be closed only if you die, move out of state, request closure, or we find your case was approved in error.
Even if you already have Medicaid or WVCHIP coverage, please report if you are pregnant now or become pregnant to ensure you receive the extended coverage.
For more information, please contact the Bureau for Medical Services (BMS) at 304-558-1700.
