The WIC Approved Shopping Guide shows what foods are approved for purchase with WIC benefits. The foods are designed to supplement a participant's diet with specific nutrients. Each state has their own WIC approved food list which follow United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements for WIC-eligible foods. Some WIC foods must also comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Standards of Identity. Standards of identity define what a given food product is, its name, and the ingredients that must be used, or may be used in the manufacture of the food. To view the Standards of Identity for infant formula, milk, cheese, juice, eggs, canned and frozen fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread, canned fish, and peanut butter, visit the FDA website.
