The Health Statistics Center (HSC) is a division of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health. HSC disseminates information about the health of West Virginians to inform public policy, and guide disease prevention efforts. Much of this information is obtained from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the Vital Statistics System. In 2008, Statistical Services expanded to include a chronic disease epidemiology unit responsible for conducting disease surveillance and program evaluation for public health programs addressing chronic disease, tobacco prevention, and minority health issues in West Virginia.
