West Virginia Healthy Habits School Contest

Healthy Habits (5).pngUnder the leadership of Governor Jim Justice, the West Virginia Department of Health, in collaboration with the West Virginia Department of Education and Aetna Better Health of West Virginia, is thrilled to announce ​the launch of the inaugural West Virginia Healthy Habits School Contest. This exciting initiative is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the incredible efforts of schools across our state that are making significant strides in improving health outcomes for students, both within their school communities and beyond.


​The WV Healthy Habits School Contest is designed to support and spotlight innovative efforts, encouraging schools to create environments where students can thrive physically, mentally and emotionally. We believe that healthy students are better learners, and through this initiative, we aim to inspire and empower schools to implement sustainable health practices that will benefit our students for years to come.


Make “Healthy” a Habit in Your School

Join us in this remarkable journey towards a healthier West Virginia. Together, we can build a brighter, healthier future for our students by promoting nutritious eating, regular physical activity, mental wellness, and overall well-being. We invite your school to participate in the WV Healthy Habits School Contest and showcase the outstanding work you’re doing to nurture healthy habits and inspire positive change. Let’s celebrate the achievements and dedication of our school communities in making a lasting impact on the health and happiness of our children.

Launch Date: August
Application Deadline: November 5, 2024
Award Ceremonies at Top Three Schools: December

Prizes:

First Prize: $2,500
Second Prize: $1,000
Third Prize: $500

How to Enter:

Participating schools are invited to submit a two-minute video via an electronic form link provided by the West Virginia Department of Education showcasing their creative initiatives to enhance health within their school or community. For additional questions, reach out to dhcommunications@wv.gov. 


​​Members of the judging panel will include representatives from the West Virginia Department of Health, Department of Education, and AETNA Better Health of West Virginia. The contest is open to all West Virginia elementary schools. 


Utilization of Prize Money:

The awarded funds can be used by winning schools to further support their health initiatives, such as purchasing sports equipment or enhancing playground facilities.
