Free Clinics

Page Content
Ten free clinics (nine full-service and one dental only) throughout the state provide health care and medical homes to thousands of uninsured adult West Virginians. The free clinics are geographically dispersed throughout the state and are located in Beckley, Bluefield, Charleston, Charles Town (Ranson), Clarksburg, Huntington, Morgantown, Parkersburg, West Milford (dental only) and Wheeling.  See the location of the free clinics.

The mission of the West Virginia Association of Free Clinics is to provide health care and serve as medical homes to the thousands of uninsured adult West Virginians who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare, who earn no more than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level and who fall through the cracks of the healthcare system.

In 2013, the free clinics cared for more than 60,000 adults through over 285,000 office visits and filled approximately 600,000 life enhancing and life saving medications - all at no charge to the patients. The free clinics consistently reduce emergency room use by 64 percent and in-patient hospitalization by 42 percent and prevent cost-shifting by treating patients in the early stages of illness.
