What is the Comprehensive Cancer Program?

The comprehensive approach to cancer control is an emerging strategy that seeks to ensure that all of our state's cancer fighting organizations - from state government programs to non-profit organizations - are working together to fight cancer in every community on all fronts, from prevention and early detection to treatment, rehabilitation and end-of-life care.

What are the Benefits to this Comprehensive Approach to Cancer Control?

Maximized local, state, and national resources.

  • Increased coordination and cooperation between cancer control organizations and programs.
  • Increased access to cancer information and resources.

How is Comprehensive Cancer Funded?

The Comprehensive Cancer Program was awarded funds by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through a five year cooperative agreement with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. West Virginia's Comprehensive Cancer Program is one of 65 states, tribes, and territories funded for comprehensive cancer control activities. With these funds, the Program funds activities and the operation and facilitation of a statewide cancer coalition, Mountains of Hope.
