Wireless Equipment for Farmers

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) along with the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is working to increase the availability of fresh and local produce for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients throughout the state of West Virginia.  To do this, we are working to increase the number of SNAP authorized farmers’ markets (FM) and direct-marketing farmers (DMF) across the state by ensuring access to SNAP wireless and wired Point of Sale (POS) equipment.

The West Virginia DHHR was recently awarded a small grant that would support the wireless POS equipment expenses for a limited number of SNAP authorized FMs and DMFs. Available funding will be used to cover EBT-only POS equipment on a monthly basis, including setup of the equipment and monthly expenses for processing the EBT transactions.  The wireless POS equipment will be awarded to qualifying FMs or DMFs on a first-come, first-served basis.

You should apply if:
1.    You can support AT&T Cellular Service.
2.    You’re a new FM/DMF to the SNAP market with FNS Merchant Certification.
3.    You are a Certified Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Merchant without equipment.
4.    You are not an FNS Merchant and you need assistance with obtaining certification.

If you do not meet the requirements listed above and are still in need of a POS machine, the Office of EBT can also assist you. Wired POS equipment is available free of charge to farmers who have completed FNS merchant certification. Please complete an application and check the appropriate box so that our office may contact you with additional information.
