Global authorities on alert over Ebola outbreak

Fears that the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa that has killed more than 670 people could go global have led to health officials in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong quarantining airline passengers who have shown symptoms of the deadly disease.

The U.K.'s Department of Health confirmed Wednesday that a man who flew into Birmingham airport recently from Nigeria via Paris was clear of the virus despite saying he felt feverish. The U.K. has never seen a case of Ebola.

Later Wednesday, newly appointed British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond will chair an emergency meeting on how to stop the spread of the virus.
