WHAT IS RABIES?

       A serious disease that affects the brain. The Rabies virus is found in the saliva of an animal with rabies. Rabies spreads in the wild when a rabid animal (one that has rabies), bites another animal. People can get rabies from a rabid animal bite too.

WHAT ANIMALS CAN GET RABIES?

      Mammals of all kinds can get rabies, including cats and dogs, but most often bats and raccoons carry the disease. Pets can be given shots to keep from getting rabies.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF AN ANIMAL HAS RABIES?

     You cannot tell whether an animal has rabies just from looking at it. So stay a safe distance from any wild animals and stray cats and dogs while camping.
