Major causes of death and disability in West Virginia are due to chronic conditions, many of which are preventable. The Division of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease (HPCD) within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health recognizes communities with a commitment to supporting healthy choices through Healthy People Healthy Places.

HPCD, in partnership with the West Virginia Association of Counties (WVACo), will hold the Healthy People Healthy Places Inaugural Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Charleston during the WVACo Conference.

Seven communities will be recognized at the ceremony for their commitment to the health and well-being of West Virginians. The names of the counties will be announced at the ceremony.

The Healthy People Healthy Places recognition program celebrates the impactful work in communities throughout the state and those leaders who are making a difference by implementing policies and programs that help West Virginians eat better, move more, and be tobacco free while making an impact on West Virginia’s economy.
